The Whole Horse Institute was founded in the mid 1980s by Mary Ann Simonds offering courses and lectures on equine holistic health, ecology, behavior and marketing. Active in wild horse management and equine sports therapy, Mary Ann partnered with a number of other organizations including the Bureau of Land Management(BLM) and people conducting training to thousands of individuals. In 2001 the Institute evolved into the Whole Horse and Equestrian Science Institute with a strong focus on bringing equine science and equestrian psychology into the horse industry
